Friday 28th January

This Friday sees the return of Brisbane’s DEADSHITS! festival, a showcase of the most attractive and aesthetically pleasing losers in Australian music.
Think James Cameron’s science fiction masterpiece The Terminator.
Deadshits Two is kinda like its sequel, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, but with even more post-apocalyptic bliss.
With a lineup consisting of Brendan from Eddy Current Suprresion Ring, Steph from Dick Diver and a rhythm section of members from Teen Archer and The Twerps, you know right away Melbourne’s BOOMGATES (above) will be great.
Their music is rich with goodtime summer vibes, listening to it makes you want to get out of the house more and generally be less of a shitty person. S/T debut 7” out now on R.I.P SOCIETY RECORDS.

CIRCLE PIT are a glam/scum/rock ‘n’ roll band from Sydney, Australia. Formed in 2008 by Jack Mannix and Angela Bermuda, they are now a five person gang consisting of Harriet Hudson, Al Haddock & Jeffrey Lewis, with Owen Penglis (Straight Arrows) occasionally making six.
This is their first show in Australia since returning from a 40-date, 6-week USA tour promoting their new Bruise Constellation LP, out now on Siltbreeze Records.

Holders of the controversial title “the best band in the world”, HOLY BALM are in fact three humble young adults from Sydney’s inner suburbs.
The only thing discerning these guys from your neighbours is that on weekends they happen to be the best freaking weirdo-electronic-dance ¬band in the world.
If you happen to like your dance music served with weird shit like butter prawns and oregano then this is for you.

ASSASSINS 88 are a two piece from Canberra that mix the ‘Lightning Bolt’ aesthetic with 60’s pop sensibilities.
Their debut album Go Go Second Chance Virgin was a worldwide blog hit of 2009 and the band have only gotten higher and higher since.

SUPERSTAR are Kieran Hegarty and Esther Edquist, who make wandering, slow space songs.
They combine synthesiser and guitar to make a type of music that is rhythmic, wonky and repetitive.
Self described as “floating music”, these are slow rhythms, strange sounds and simple songs.

PER PURPOSE are a three piece band of Brisbane that formed early this year in Queensland, in and of other acts and that.
Their debut 7” Heil Progress is out now on Bedroom Suck Records, with a tour of Aus in Jan/Feb 2011 to support.

Woodland Press Release: Cancellation of Thee Oh Sees show Tues Jan 11

Woodland Press Release: Cancellation of Thee Oh Sees show Tues Jan 11.

To everyone who was looking forward to Thee Oh Sees show on Tuesday Jan 11,
all of us at Woodland are very sorry that the show had to be cancelled owing to the
weather and flood preparations.

As of 4pm on Tuesday afternoon, after having spent the day sourcing backline
equipment despite suppliers closing, both the band and venue were keen to go ahead
with the show. The enormity of the developing situation in Brisbane wasn’t 100%
clear to us as we were offline, dealing with the nuts and bolts of making the show
occur.

However, the police contacted us at 6pm with the advice that lives could be at risk
were the event to go ahead, and made it clear that it would be in everyone’s best
interest for the show to be cancelled. We then acted immediately to announce the
cancellation through all available channels.

Both Thee Oh Sees and Woodland are mega-bummed the gig couldn’t go ahead as
planned. A free house show was even considered, but once everyone understood how
bad things were getting, we couldn’t in clear conscience proceed for fear of anyone
being hurt while getting to or from the show.

We hope Thee Oh Sees can come back and play for us again sometime soon. Until
then, refunds on tickets are available at point of purchase. To all Woodland-goers and
their families, we hope you made it through the last few days unscathed and healthy.
See you soon!
