Above:
Secret Birds live performance for the annual I Used To Skate Once show at The Zoo in Brisbane, Australia. For this show they brought in five drummers to play simultaneously, and asked if I'd cover the show.
Secret Birds perform long, heavily instrumental pieces. The film covers the two pieces performed, one in each part. This first piece, which is in two halves, goes for about 17 minutes. The entire performance is covered in one shot.

Ty Segall

San Francisco psych wunderkind Ty Segall continues a tireless musical assault on ears and minds and is touring Australia for the first time this July.
On the heels of two critically acclaimed solo albums, Segall holed up in a basement studio with Mike Donovan of the SicAlps in late 2009 and early 2010 to come up with his latest record Melted. It's a carefree yet precise balance of acoustic and electric elements. Distorted echo and thunder mix together with enough clean guitar lines and addictive choruses to deliver an album that recalls the '60s without sounding like anything created during that decade. Time melts away, vision melts away, minds melt away. Get Melted!
"Ty Segall's short, sharp songs peal out of the garage without raising the doors, sending 1960s rock riffs crashing through splintered, smart-ass lo-fi buzz." - Pitchfork

***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***

FLAVOURS OF SKUZZ MOVES VENUES, CHANGES TIMES/BANDS SLIGHTLY

Flavours of Skuzz, the finest collection of nogoodniks, drop outs, glue sniffers and gentlemen sailors ever assembled in the history of Queensland has had to MOVE VENUES.

Due to a cliched but nonetheless accurate 'set of unforseen circumstances', the event could no longer go ahead as planned at the Jubilee Hotel. Instead it will now be taking place in the convivial surrounds of Woodland Bar in Coniston Lane, Fortitude Valley. An extra room has been made available so that all three stages can go ahead as planned, with only minor changes to the line up. The event will now be running from 4pm on Saturday the 9th of July until 3am the following morning - that's eleven hours of hectic garage rock madness.

The organizers would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the bands who are no longer performing at the event and to anyone else who has been inconvenienced by this change of plans - we will make it up to you somehow! However, we are super excited about the new venue and we're pretty sure FLAVOURS OF SKUZZ is going to go off like the proverbial fart in bottle/frog in sock/Cumbian taxi driver.

The final line up is: Hoss (VIC, ex GOD), HITS, The Vee Bees (NSW), The Boondall Boys (ex Onyas), Dick Nasty, Slug Guts, Blank Realm, Velociraptor, Straight Arrows (NSW), The Meatbeaters (SA), Jonny Romeo (NSW), Brat Farrar (VIC), Undead Apes, Feathers, Lobster Prophet, Pastel Blaze, The Royal Family, Keep On Dancin's, The Busymen, The Gooch Palms (NSW), The Chokes, Main Street Brats, The Narwhals and Gravel Samwidge. DJ Wolvie Trash will also be spinning skuzzy nuggets between bands.

However numbers are now somewhat limited and tickets are sure to sell out fast so to ensure your place head to www.oztix.com.au now!

THIS FRIDAY NITE AT WOODLAND

Hi. Remember us?

Born out of the ashes of The Depot, Common People existed upstairs at Rosie's as a haven for indie club kids left without a place to hang out, make out and dance on. Misfits and the dazed and confused would stumble up the stairs every weekend from 2007 to 2009 to hear electro, indie, hip hop and trash tunes churned out mainly by bonafide lowlifes D.Black and Polar Bear.

Friendships were made and bridges burnt every weekend under the low ceiling of the club for over 2 years, until the influx of fashion punks and fringe warriors downstairs meant that Common People could no longer co-exist at the tiny CBD venue without developing some bad tatts and raging alcoholism. Unwilling to further disrespect the temples of their failing bodies, D.Black and Polar Bear packed up their oxygen tanks and catheters and moved on, ending Common People's reign as the smallest and dodgiest indie club Brisbane has ever seen.

Yet now, 2 years later, by strangely popular demand, Common People is returning for one night only under the timber arches of Woodland - the attraction of a high ceiling too much for Polar Bear to pass up. Joined by CP and Depot/Guilty Pleasures DJs Ninja Rock and Deftone, Common People wants you to party like the late years of the last decade in the most tenuous nostalgia trip ever conceived.

It'll be loud, it'll be messy, the DJs will probably fuck up at least a few times and many requests will be politely listened to, then ignored. It'll be just like old times - how can you pass that up?

The Common People reunion takes place at Woodland on Friday June 17th from 9pm, with DJs D.Black, Polar Bear, Ninja Rock and Deftone throwing hits, misses and more into the mix.

ONE TIME ONLY.
