Diary Date-The Honey Month- Friday 25th February 2011

THE HONEY MONTH

Their collaboration dates back to seven years ago, when two eleven year old
boys with a keyboard, a tape recorder and an affection for punk recorded their
first song over the top of a dusty Tom Petty cassette.

After acquiring a set of drums and an electric guitar, a three piece band was
formed, playing together until early 2008, when a strange transition fuelled by
a mutual love of eclectic music occurred. This is where The Honey Month begun.
The band, based in Brisbane, now consists of Thomas, Liam, David, Jonathan, and
Hamish.

An obsession with unconventional instruments saw the boys acquiring a piano
accordion, melodica, musical saw, kalimba, mandolin, double bass and ukulele
to become intrinsic parts of their ever expanding collective sound. Dedication
to their music has seen The Honey Month not sleeping until they are learnt with
competence.

Crafting unique songs which portray a musical freedom uncommon with their
peers, The Honey Month create haunting lyrical themes of mortality and betrayal
which sit comfortably with the elements whilst threatening a grand conclusion.

Bleedings Knees Club "Virginity EP" launch this Friday!!

Happy Endings & Woodland presents...
Bleedings Knees Club
"Virginity EP" launch

W/ Teenage Wolves
+ Howl DJ's

$5 • Doors 8pm • 18+

These new kids on the block throw together a perfect blend of surfy, lo-fi fun punk that makes you wish everyday was a summer holiday.

Comprising of Alex Wall (Vox/Drums) and Jordan Malane (Guitar/Vox), the thrashy 2-piece write songs about falling in love, getting drunk and all the while, having fun. With an extremely energetic live show, the Bleeding Knees boys manage to take their raw punk sound, and effortlessly tie it in together with catchy riffs and simple sing-a-long melodies (think Wavves and The Black Lips meets The Beach Boys).

After playing various warehouse parties and club-nights around Queensland, the boys bunkered down to record their first 2 tracks in a friend’s studio, set up in the back of a sneaker shop. And with an average track length of less than 2 minutes, they’re basic, they’re catchy and above all else, they’re fucking fun.

New Tym guitars retail shop opening

5E Winn street, Fortitude Valley
Tym guitars has grown in leaps and bounds to become one of the most respected and unique guitar shops in the world and is visited by such names as Jack White, Keith Urban, Hank Marvin and J Mascis and lists them plus bands like the Pixies, Jesus and Mary Chain, My Chemical Romance, Paul Weller and many more international bands as well as most big and small Australian bands as happy customers.

After starting and operating from my current workshop under my house in Woolloongabba since 1997 I finally moved into a small retail shop in Brisbane's music hub of Fortitude Valley in 2008. In 2009 I moved to bigger premises as the retail shop grew in size and demand after many touring bands made it a Mecca to visit when on tour.

I am now moving again in mid November to much bigger, custom built facilities 20 meters from our current position around the corner at 5E Winn st, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.

This move will bring with it a much bigger, diverse range of products including new amps, recording equipment, music CD/vinyl/merch and collectables, drum products, tour gear, a bigger hire section and practice rooms with a full digital 16 track recording studio. This will be added to the already huge range of new and second hand guitars, basses, amps, speaker cabs, accessories and effects pedals that we already stock. We are also THE RETAIL OUTLET for Vase amps. Made in Brisbane since 1958, these high quality guitar and bass amps and cabs will be available ONLY through Tym guitars.

We have soundproof "tryout" rooms for retail and hire gear and have dedicated professionally designed and built practice rooms/studio that can be booked day or night for full bands, teachers/students, clinics etc. The rooms are supplied with Acoustic Technology PA's and Tym speaker cabs along with our current list of ever growing vintage and rare hire gear available on request.

Add to all of this the unique feature of the retail shop having a fully equipped live stage for touring bands to play instores and signings and this becomes a very exciting destination for bands and public alike. The fully dedicated stage area will have a full backline from our list of hire gear including guitars, basses, effects and amps and will run a custom built 16 channel audio system designed and installed by Acoustic Technologies with the option of full 16 track studio quality recording of all instores.

I will also be re-opening a limited custom shop that will offer completely handmade, custom built guitars, basses, amps, speaker cabs and effects pedals to your specific needs completely to order. These will be anything from parts assembled clones to fully custom order guitars, basses, amps and effects from our ever growing range of Tym Musical Instruments products.

The main repair and manufacturing workshop will still be located at the Gabba but we will have large facilities for most repairs and some manufacturing in the new shop. This will cater to touring bands who need gear fixed quickly at a central drop off/pick up point near where they are probably playing in the Valley. The Woolloongabba repair and manufacturing workshop will still offer a full range of guitar, amp and pedal repairs, speaker fitting, pick up rewinds, restorations, refinishing and set ups as well as house the custom shop for all guitar, amp, effects and speaker cab production.

Tym guitars is a local, independent business offering Brisbane, and Australia an alternative to the chain import retailers and I appreciate all your support.
~Tym

November 13th DARK BELLS (live) @ midnight

The three piece hailing from Sydney have been captivating audiences with their cross breed
of shoegaze and neo psychedelic sounds.

Dark Bells are Teneil T on lead vocals and guitar, Ash Moss on bass (ex Mercy Arms) and
Simon Parker on drums (ex damn arms).

The trio create walls of sound lush and thick with swirling drones and driving drum beats.
Ethereal vocals echo and drift within the SONIC LAYERS of tracks like ‘Wildflower’ and ‘We
Are Runaways’ some of the first demos recorded by the band.
